Welcome to 6th Grade. It is your child's last year at St. Mary School! I look forward to helping your child grow spiritually, academically, and personally. We will make many lasting memories this year!

Classroom Management

Character growth requires that students learn individual responsibility for behavior and its rewards or consequences. Students will act with respect for self, others, and property. This year the 4th, 5th, and 6th grade classes will be continuing, "Point the Way to Success!" We are excited to acknowledge the successful choices our students make at St. Mary School. This promotes ownership of goals and positive behavior. A report of your child's progress will be sent home at the end of each week for you to review, sign, and address any areas of strength or needs of improvement. This report will reflect your child's positive behavior as well as any areas where improvement might be needed. It will need to be returned no later than Tuesday of the following week.

Homework Policy

  • Class work is assigned at the completion of the lesson. Students will be given time to start on their assigned work.
  • If a student takes advantage of the work to do outside of the school day. A typical grade six student should be expected to have 60 minutes of homework per night. (10 minutes per grade level)
  • Students that are absent will be expected to turn in homework within two days after they were absent and stay current with work when they come back. I will make arrangements for any missed work. Absent students are still responsible for any work that was missed.

As an educator I recognize the importance of parent involvement in every child’s success. I will seek to maintain adequate and consistent communication about your child’s academic progress and social development.

If you have any questions or concerns throughout the year please do not hesitate to email me at kphillips@stmaryhumboldt.org

**Full band days are on "B" days, and lessons are on Day 3 of a six day cycle. The students will always be aware of what days of the week will be band days.
